How to do a DIY lymphatic drainage massage.

Ready to be a lymphatic massage fanatic? Here's everything you need to know.

What is a lymphatic massage?

Have you ever been sick with a cold and noticed swollen lymph nodes (those slightly unsettling lumps under your jaw)? That's your lymphatic system clearing out waste and keeping things moving. The idea behind a lymphatic massage is to encourage that natural draining process along.

The benefits of lymphatic draining

Lots of babes enjoy these massages for their sculpting effect on the body, reporting that skin feels tighter and brighter post-massage. Other supposed benefits include:

  • Strengthening your immune system
  • Reducing the appearance of cellulite
  • Improving your mood
  • Helping with headaches and constipation
  • More energy and less brain fog

Think of it like hitting the reset button.

How to DIY a lymphatic massage

This is not a deep tissue massage, so forget about undoing knots. Lymphatic massages are gentle, slow, and intentional. Think yoga sesh, not sports recovery.

Before you start, apply my Rosehip Body Scrub & Cleanser in the shower for some slip as the scrub lathers into a rich, foamy cleanser. At-home spa day and lymphatic drainage in one. Win-win. Alternatively, use my Rosehip Dry Body Oil out of the shower for glide without the grease.

Start with the neck

  1. In the soft hollow above your collarbones, stroke downwards ten times.
  2. Place your hands behind your ears and stroke down your neck lightly.
  3. Stroke upwards from your elbow to your shoulder, then press underneath each armpit three times.

Do your lower body

  1. Press three times in your groin on each side.
  2. Using a closed fist, lightly stroke upwards from your knee to groin, eight times each side.
  3. Squeeze the back of your knees, then stroke from your foot to knee ten times.

Time for the tummy

  1. Press your palms flat on the area between your hip bones, then stroke around your belly button.
  2. Lightly pinch all over your belly to finish.

The whole thing should take about 15 to 20 minutes.

After the massage

After a lymphatic massage, prioritise hydration. My Rosehip Dry Body Oil is rich in vitamin C and supports your skin's collagen, which helps keep skin bouncy and firm. Pair it with the Rosehip Body Scrub & Cleanser for a full rosehip routine that works double time on the benefits.

Want to take your results even further? My Body Sculpt Tool was designed for exactly this. Apply any body cream, serum, or oil first for some slip, then use the tool to work through a lymphatic massage and help smooth the look of skin all over.

So get rubbing, babe. And if stretch marks are on your mind too, read my tips for tackling them.
