The three bad p’s: parabens, phthalates & PEGs.
Scary, unnatural, but luckily avoidable. And not in me. Because that’s just the kind of guy I am.
Firstly, the words themselves sound horrible. Anything I can’t pronounce, spell or rhyme I know is not going to be good for me, or you babes.
Secondly, the ramifications give me night terrors. Yes, that’s right. Night Terrors. For those that don’t know, the three p’s are chemicals often found in beauty products that have an array of negative side effects, are toxic to organs and effect reproductive health.
Some of these side effects have been known to disrupt babes’ hormone systems, and even worse, contribute to breast cancer tumors.
So what are they exactly?
Phthalates are an industrial chemical that some people believe is linked to liver cancer, reducing sperm count and contributing to childhood obesity. And it’s found in gift wrap and children’s toys. Shakes head.
Parabens are a group of compounds used as preservatives in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food products. Doesn’t sound too bad, right? Wrong. These compounds mimic oestrogen in the body, and if present for a long time can have a cumulative effect and pose a health risk.
Pegs are the trickiest. Yes, they are groovy little devices you use to hang out your lingerie. I like that. However they are also very persistent, cosmetic chemicals like emollients and emulsifiers.
In basic terms, they are meant to soften your skin, but in actual fact they will upset and contaminate the balance of moisture that is oil and water.
Too much info? A little bit scary? Don’t stress, babe. They are avoidable – if you are observant and take the time to check. It’s easy – just look for any words you struggle to pronounce, let alone spell, and that end in ‘paraben’. These should be warning bells.
Finally, I’ll save you the hassle of having to check my product contents each time:
